Invenra is seeking an enthusiastic, task-driven individual to fill an internship position available in the Protein Purification and Analytics group. This individual will report to the Director of the Protein Purification and Analytics group and will be mentored by Scientists and Research Associates to support daily operations and independently perform routine laboratory procedures. The internship will provide a unique opportunity to learn basic bioanalytical laboratory skills and techniques used to purify and characterize protein biotherapeutics and protein-based research molecules in support of Invenra’s drug development pipeline. The internship position will provide training on the use of numerous analytical instruments and devices including UV absorbance readers, pH instruments, gel electrophoresis boxes, light scattering/intrinsic fluorescence instrument, and analytical/preparative-scale HPLC systems.

This internship is seeking candidates interested in working approximately 8-20 hours per week, afternoons are preferred, from January 2021 to December 2021.  Working over school breaks is optional (not required).

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Performing routine tasks following standard operating procedures

  • Assisting in the preparation of buffers, solutions, and reagents

  • Cleaning labware and workspace

  • Monitoring laboratory consumables inventory and assisting with reordering

  • Labeling sample tubes/vials and making aliquots to supply assay pipeline

  • Analyzing samples using UV absorbance, SDS-PAGE and light scattering/intrinsic fluorescence instruments, HPLC

  • Compiling/uploading data and assisting with reporting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to stand for hours at a time for sample processing

  • Must be able to lift 25 lb

  • Must be capable of operating standard laboratory equipment (pH meter, balance, centrifuge, etc.)

  • Should have basic knowledge of chemical classes (acids, bases, organic solvents, etc.), simple algebra, and conversions among units of measurement (e.g., converting moles to grams)

  • Should have experience with Windows-Based PCs, Microsoft Office, and Google apps (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs). Experience with Mac operating systems also desirable

  • Experience using adjustable volume micropipettes is desirable

  • Must adhere to standard operating procedures when required

  • Must be reliable, have a positive and professional attitude, and maintain positive group dynamic through effective and timely communication



The successful candidate will have at least two classes of college-level bench laboratory courses (chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physics, etc), or three months of relevant industrial or academic laboratory experience.
