SENIOR/PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST-

ANTIGEN SCIENCES (#130)

Summary

Invenra is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual with an extensive background in protein design, expression, and purification to join Invenra at the Senior or Principal Scientist level. The successful candidate will work closely with the antibody discovery, and protein design groups to build custom antigens needed for selections, immunizations, or data collection. A strong desire to work in a lab setting, troubleshoot expression and purification of complex proteins, and an ability to thrive in an environment of new challenges are critical. A desire to investigate and implement new technologies to facilitate antigen expression is also a must. Direct experience with difficult, or intractable targets, such as integral membrane proteins is a plus.

Ideal candidates have a Ph.D. or M.S. in a related field, have been employed in similar types of positions with multiple years’ post graduate experience, and want to be a part of an expanding start-up company developing innovative therapeutics and technologies. Candidates must bring intellectual, professional and personal values that complement the founding team: the highest standard of integrity, a strong work ethic and a passion to succeed.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the antibody discovery and protein design groups to identify antigen reagents that will facilitate the identification and characterization novel and high-quality binder sequences.

  • Coordinate the ordering, expression, purification, and storage of antigen proteins and their gene sequences to support the diverse needs of the functional groups at Invenra.

  • Develop and implement antigen-specific analytical strategies to ensure antigen quality, and determine what should be used in selections, or immunization.

  • Investigate, design, perform, and lead alternative technologies and processes for expression/purification of difficult antigens, such as integral membrane proteins.

  • Expand the overall knowledge of Invenra in the areas of complex protein biochemistry and difficult targets.

Specific Skills

  • Extensive experience in biochemistry, protein purification, and/or biologics process development.

  • A strong understanding of cell culture, and protein expression.

  • Strong critical analysis skills to evaluate data and make decisions in the areas of protein expression, purification.

  • An understanding of various methods for protein purification (affinity, Ion exchange, etc.), and the use of FPLC.

  • A working understanding of protein characterization techniques including chromatography (SEC, HIC, etc.), mass spectrometry, BLI/SPR, etc.

Knowledge and skill in any of the following is a plus

  • Experience with GMP/GLP manufacture of antibodies and a desire to contribute to discussions regarding lead candidates.

  • Demonstrated involvement in IND filings and an ability to advise on data preparation, and/or regulatory items.

  • Project management experience, and a desire to serve as point of contact and “champion” for one or more internal projects.

  • Direct experience working with “intractable” antigens, such as integral membrane proteins, and a willingness to develop platforms to facilitate purification of such molecules.

Education

Senior Scientist:

Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field, and at least a B.S. with 10+ years of experience, or 3 years’ post graduate experience in biotechnology or biopharmaceuticals, or M.S. with at least 7 years’ experience.

Principal Scientist:

Ph.D. in biological sciences or a related field, and at least 10 years’ work experience in a related field.
