Artist Statement
This painting encapsulates many aspects of my artistic practice through the life I have lived in the last 4 years. In my 3rd year of remission after battling stage 2A testicular cancer I’m left with so many wonderful things to be grateful for. However there is now a pre cancer version of myself and a post cancer version of myself. The painting is a reflection of all the lovely things that have grown back in my life but the absence of the shadow gives thought of what has disappeared. It’s neither good nor bad, but a moment to pay homage to what was once me and who am I growing into now.
52 Views of Cancer
52 Views of Cancer is a deck of playing cards illustrated by people who know cancer firsthand. Each of the 52 cards carries original artwork by a different cancer patient, survivor, or immediate family member, each with their own view of the disease.
The artwork comes first. We're bringing the deck to major scientific and medical conferences and putting these artists' work directly into the hands of the researchers and clinicians working on the cancers they've faced.
