Living in the moment and appreciating the natural world around me is what inspires my work. During chemotherapy I could hardly function, and most days it really was a minute-by-minute existence. Art was the only thing that helped me feel any sense of hope or positivity. I pushed myself to complete the art-related goals I had already lined up for the year (prior to my diagnosis), and it is what kept me going. Having cancer was the most difficult thing I have ever experienced, but the result of it is that I have really learned to appreciate small things and live in the now.
52 Views of Cancer is a deck of playing cards illustrated by people who know cancer firsthand. Each of the 52 cards carries original artwork by a different cancer patient, survivor, or immediate family member, each with their own view of the disease.
The artwork comes first. We're bringing the deck to major scientific and medical conferences and putting these artists' work directly into the hands of the researchers and clinicians working on the cancers they've faced.
