Artist Statement

“We can’t treat you here.”

“It’s a rare, aggressive form of leukemia.”

A diagnosis that sent me straight to a specialty hospital to start treatment immediately.

Fear. My kids… my husband… my mom… my job…

Two and a half years of chemo infusions, intrathecal chemo, blood transfusions, bone marrow biopsies, and chemo pills.

My shattered, beaten, and weak body yearned to feel whole again.

This piece represents my rising from barely being able to walk to the bathroom to completing my first triathlon with Team Phoenix. My team of incredible coaches and female cancer survivors taught me how to meet my body where it was at and how to push past my perceived limitations. A group of women who had all lived through hell supporting each other to reach that finish line! And through it all came a physical and emotional transformation that will forever define my “life after cancer.”

Book 52 views of cancer

52 Views of Cancer

52 Views of Cancer is a deck of playing cards illustrated by people who know cancer firsthand. Each of the 52 cards carries original artwork by a different cancer patient, survivor, or immediate family member, each with their own view of the disease.

The artwork comes first. We're bringing the deck to major scientific and medical conferences and putting these artists' work directly into the hands of the researchers and clinicians working on the cancers they've faced.
