Artist Statement
Reborning came to me when cancer took away my ability to work, but it gave me something profound in return. I taught myself to paint these vinyl dolls—out of both necessity and the deep need to create beauty in a difficult time. Delilah, this piece, is inspired by the pure, realistic beauty of a child. In those two to four weeks it takes to create each one, I find hope. This art gave me a way forward when my body struggled, and it lets me give back. I create these for those who’ve lost children, who can’t have them, or who face grief. In my own difficult journey, creating these pieces has been a light, and my deepest hope is that they offer a small light to others too.
52 Views of Cancer
52 Views of Cancer is a deck of playing cards illustrated by people who know cancer firsthand. Each of the 52 cards carries original artwork by a different cancer patient, survivor, or immediate family member, each with their own view of the disease.
The artwork comes first. We're bringing the deck to major scientific and medical conferences and putting these artists' work directly into the hands of the researchers and clinicians working on the cancers they've faced.
