I was treated for Leukemia when I was quite young, and am interested in the banality of high-stress environments like hospitals. This painting is inspired by a specific line by a friend 'As the chemo drips we watch bullshit tv'. The intensity cannot be sustained over long periods of time and repetitive actions. Patients are there for weeks or years, hospital workers are there for entire careers. The outside world crossing in can feel absurd and grounding at once.
52 Views of Cancer is a deck of playing cards illustrated by people who know cancer firsthand. Each of the 52 cards carries original artwork by a different cancer patient, survivor, or immediate family member, each with their own view of the disease.
The artwork comes first. We're bringing the deck to major scientific and medical conferences and putting these artists' work directly into the hands of the researchers and clinicians working on the cancers they've faced.
